Entrepreneur gets patent for chapatti roller

HIMACHAL PRADESH

After the Kullu shawl and Kangra tea, an entrepreneur from Shimla has got a patent for a 'chakla belan' (rolling pin and plate with a stand) designed by him for making chapattis.
The patent office at Kolkata has registered the new marble chapatti roller developed by Subhash Jishtu of Matiana village.

The design registration is valid for 10 years and can be renewed for another five years, Jishtu told PTI, showing the letter he received from the Kolkata patent office in June.

The application for registration was sent through the Himachal Pradesh Patent Information Centre under the State Council for Science, Technology and Environment.

Jishtu claimed the marble chapatti roller developed by him is only 1.5 kg while an ordinary one weighs between three and five kg. The roller can be kept on a wooden stand provided with the set, he said.
"After getting the patent, I launched the product in Delhi, Shimla, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar and Jammu markets," Jishtu said.

The target is to increase production and sell it in other states and export it, he said.
Jishtu's chapatti roller has three variants made of different quality of marble. While the one made of white marble costs Rs 295, the green version costs Rs 315 and the super white one is available for Rs 350.
